The Water buddy Development Award is designed to provide initial training and knowledge with the skills to be a Water Buddy or assistant in teaching the delivery of swimming.
This course will give young people and adults from the age of 14, the ability and knowledge to assist in the delivery of swimming lessons. This course is designed to be an initial stepping stone towards the candidate gaining the knowledge, skills and confidence to then later embark on further Swimming Teaching Qualifications.

The STA Level 1 Award in Teaching Swimming aims to produce teachers that can teach the essential swimming skills, water safety and all four key strokes to participants. They are able to plan, deliver, assess and evaluate lessons for adult and child participants.

This qualification is for learners who wish to work with children and adults, helping them to develop, both as swimmers and individuals in the aquatic environment. No experience of working with children or teaching swimming lessons is required prior to undertaking this qualification.
Once qualified learners may wish to develop their knowledge and skills further, by gaining the STA Level 2 Certificate in Teaching Swimming, which enables the learner to teach advanced swimming skills. Alternatively, learners may wish to expand their teaching portfolio to teaching those with disabilities and baby and pre-school participants.
Entry requirements are must be 16 years old and hold a current membership of the Swimming Teachers Association.

The STA Certificate in Teaching Swimming covers advanced participants and advanced swimming skills and is tutor assessed through the completion of schemes of work, lesson plans, lesson evaluation forms and practical teaching.

Entry Requirements are; must be 16 years of age; Hold current membership of STA; Hold the STA Level 2 Award in Teaching Swimming or acceptable equivalent. (Please note the Swim England Level 1 Award in Aquatic Teaching is not an acceptable entry requirement).
